Seal analysis
Bolted components containing a fluid medium (oil or gas, for example) have to be sealed against the environment. It is critical here that the seal is compressed sufficiently to perform its sealing function. Depending on the type of seal, even a defined gap can be bridged.
Numerical simulation allows the sealing behaviour of your components to be investigated. All effects are taken into account — preload, material nonlinearities, friction and gaps.
The results include:
- sealing gap
- contact pressure
- deformation and relative movement of the seal
- loading of the adjacent components by the seal and its preload
- stress and strain in the sealing element
Besides pressure and the resulting deformations, further loads can also be taken into account, such as thermal expansion or centrifugal forces.
