Training: Design by Analysis for ASME Vessels in Practice

What does the ASME code demand of an FE analysis? Whether nozzle loads, wind and earthquake, load cycles or special constructions — FE analyses are used in many ways under ASME too. Besides building the model correctly, the ASME-compliant assessment of the results is often the sticking point.

This is exactly where the seminar C15 "Design by Analysis for ASME Vessels in Practice" comes in, led by our analysis engineer Andras Vertesalji (M. Sc., EUR ING).

When: Thursday, 5 November 2026, 9:00–17:00 Where: Sheraton Hotel, Essen, Germany Organiser: CIS (cis-inspector.com)

What You Will Learn

Using practical examples, you will get to know the advantages and disadvantages of elastic, elastic-plastic and limit-load analysis — and which failure modes are best considered how. From the topics:

  • the Design-by-Analysis method
  • failure modes
  • stress and temperature analysis
  • loads and load cases
  • material models and material properties
  • building an analysis model in Ansys Workbench
  • elastic stress analysis and stress categorisation
  • limit-load and elastic-plastic analysis
  • assessment of static failure modes: plastic collapse, local failure, ratcheting, buckling
  • an outlook on fatigue and creep damage
  • requirements for result documentation
  • validation of software and hardware

Conclusion

The training is aimed at everyone who verifies pressure vessels to ASME by calculation and wants to benefit from experience gained in daily practice.
