Failure analysis

If a product fails within its intended service life, the result is usually high costs — for consequential damage, for replacing the component, and possibly for lost production. In the event of failure, a quick solution is generally sought so that the defective machine can be brought back into service as fast as possible and further failure ruled out.

Analysing failures remains a classic application of numerical simulation. Simulation is used to:

  • understand the failure mechanism
  • develop and investigate suitable remedial measures
  • compare and assess different remedial measures
  • answer the question of whether safe operation of the defective component (e.g. with cracks) is possible until it can be replaced
  • determine the loads that caused the damage
  • demonstrate incorrect operation, overload or misuse where applicable
  • identify effects that were not in focus during the original design

We have extensive experience in analysing component failures and optimising those components to ensure safe continued operation. We support you from analysing the cause of failure, through developing remedial measures, to the strength verification of the optimised components — all from a single source.
